Loren & Ben's Perfect Fall Day

Loren contacted me back in the early Fall of 2023 to book engagement photos with his Fiancé', they were recently engaged and so excited to start the next steps of planning! I start by asking my new clients where they are dreaming to have their photos documented at? The Flathead Valley offers a wide variety of backdrops and we also are surrounded by Glacier National Park. Glacier is a favorite among many, usually chose for it's mountainous backdrops and serene beauty, nothing compares locally!

Loren and Ben ultimately chose Glacier National Park and the surrounding area to take their photos, being most drawn to bodies of water, mountains and spacious fields. These two started their time with me along a little creekside in Apgar, venturing out onto the rocks, capturing the most amazing reflections in the water. The weather was tempting to turn awry on us, however it withheld the entire time. I personally love a good overcast day, the colors are more rich snd no harsh lighting to deal with.

Fall Colors Along The Flathead River

Next, we ventured to a gorgeous spot in West Glacier, along the Flathead River. This is a favorite location of mine, especially in the off-season. During the peak of summer, the bridge is filled with people recreating, enjoying their summer jumping in the river off the bridge (it's quite fun to watch if you ask me). In the Fall, the larch in the area turn this beautiful color of yellow/orange and paint their reflections in the river. It just takes my breath away, so pretty! I had so much fun capturing Loren & Ben here, they were both so relaxed, it was effortless to photograph them.

Here are a few ways to prepare for your upcoming engagement session:

1. Communication with your Photographer:

  • Schedule a meeting or a phone call with your photographer to discuss your vision, preferences, and any specific ideas you have in mind for the engagement session. Share your personalities, hobbies, and interests so that your photographer can tailor the session accordingly. You may also be asked to fill out a questionnaire, don't skimp on the answers, these help your photographer be more comfortable in posing you two.
  • Communicate any particular locations or themes you have in mind. This helps your photographer plan ahead and ensure they have the necessary equipment and permits, if required.

2. Choose the Right Location:

  • Select a location that holds significance for both of you or reflects your personalities. It could be the place where you first met, a favorite park, a beach, a hiking trail, or even the city streets where you enjoy spending time together.
  • Consider the time of day and lighting conditions at the chosen location. Golden hour (an hour after sunrise or before sunset) often provides the most flattering natural light for photography.

3. Coordinate Outfits:

  • Choose outfits that complement each other without being too matchy-matchy. Opt for colors and styles that make you both feel comfortable and confident.
  • Avoid clothing with busy patterns or large logos that may distract from the focus of the photos. Solid colors or subtle patterns tend to work best.
  • Consider the overall aesthetic you're going for and how your outfits will blend with the chosen location. For example, if you're shooting in a natural setting, earthy tones or soft pastels might work well.

Hopefully these tips help in planning for your upcoming session!
