Why Choose Glacier National Park for Your Honeymoon?
Glacier National Park is a perfect honeymoon destination for couples seeking romance and adventure. With its stunning mountain backdrops, crystal clear alpine lakes, and lush forests, the park offers an unparalleled blend of relaxation and excitement. Imagine watching the sunrise together from a mountaintop or enjoying a picnic beside a crystal-clear lake.
Known for having more than 700+ established hiking trails, various activities like; white-water rafting, horseback riding, stargazing, fishing, and so much more, Glacier attracts more than 3 million visitors during the calendar year. With the park open year-round (some entrances close in the winter), its the ultimate destination to spend your honeymoon with your loved one. Even though you can visit year-round, I highly recommend visiting during the Summer months when you can drive the full length of the Going-to-the-sun Road, its an unforgettable experience.
Whether you fly into Kalispell and enjoy the trip from a rental or drive to Northwest Montana in your camper van and enjoy rugged camping throughout your honeymoon, push off that trip to Italy just a little longer, the mountains of Glacier National Park are calling!
When to Plan Your Glacier Honeymoon
The best time to visit Glacier depends on the experience you’re seeking. Of course, you might get married during any month of the year and travel here right after your wedding or you might push your honeymoon off for a few months till you have the weather window you desire. There are great activities to do during each season in Glacier, so you'll be sure to enjoy the park throughout the year.
- Summer (June–September): Ideal for warm weather, wildflowers, and full access to trails and roads, including the iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road. If you want to pack in all the hiking, like the heat, don't mind the crowds... summer is the season to visit Glacier.
- Fall (Late September-November): Offers cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and stunning autumn colors. Fall is my personal favorite in Glacier, the colors are out-of-this world and theres an overall calmness to the park. You can even catch some Indian Summers that last into October some years, providing a warm autumn.
- Winter (December–March): A magical snow-covered wonderland for cozying up in a cabin or enjoying snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Glacier is pristine in the winter, quiet due to lack of visitors, and a snow globe. While mostly a serene winter scape, you can occasionally find yourself in a winter blizzard, so be prepared for weather conditions.
- Spring (April–Early June): A quieter time with blooming meadows, though some roads and trails may still be inaccessible due to snow. I love when the trees/shrubbery and flowers begin to come to life in late May. Glacier just comes to life during mid-Spring. Lots of rainfall can occur in Spring, but rain often brings rainbows.
Whether you choose the off-season or peak-season, if you're a booked client of mine I am more than happy to provide you my recommendations for things to see and do around the park and my favorite restaurants to dine at while you're in town visiting.

Planning a Honeymoon Session with a Professional Photographer
More photos after the wedding, why the heck not?!?! Imagine yourself and your hunny roaming around Glacier National Park, capturing the most scenic sunset (or sunrise if that's your vibe). You can change outfits and do something casual to start off the session and end in a dressy outfit, have fun with it. Choose a photographer that's local to the area, they know the best locations and the logistics of working in the park the best. If you haven't gathered yet, I'd love to document the session for you! I bring 7+ years of photography experience to the table, each of those heavily inside Glacier National Park. I practically live, breathe, eat and sleep there during the busy season.
Need a fun idea to incorporate into your honeymoon session, look no further. I am happy to share some exciting and unique activities we can include into your session, keep reading to hear a few that I recommend that really scream "I spent my honeymoon in Glacier National Park!"
Session Date activity Ideas
- Picnic along the lake at sunset or sunrise - I'll help you pick the perfect location for a dreamy, romantic sunset along the lake (or river). You grab the picnic board from Graze Montana and you'll be set!
- Afternoon Paddleboard or Canoe along Lake McDonald - Experience the crystal clear lakes on paddle boards or a canoe rental in Apgar. I'll trail along on my paddle board and capture shots from the water (epic experience and some solitude from the crowds).
- Short Hike and lunch at your destination - Let's take a mini hike (less sweating for you two) to Rocky Point on Lake McDonald, grab a lunch to-go from Park Provisions and enjoy the views during your break!
- Campfire and S'mores - Let's snag a day use campfire ring and spend the golden hour with a fire and s'mores. You two can snuggle up in a chair and cozy blanket, tell stories or reminisce on your wedding day and the exciting events that unfolded on your travels and vacation.
Where to Stay for the Ultimate Romantic Experience
The tourism to Glacier National Park has skyrocketed in the past 5-7 years (thanks to social media and the beauty of it), the vacation rental market has really upped its game. There are so many cute and romantic rentals available to those looking for lodging. I scoped a few out and linked them below. You can also opt for a hotel, lodge, or camping (if that's your vibe).
Adventurous Activities to Share Together
Glacier National Park offers countless opportunities for couples to connect through adventure. Whether you enjoy laidback activities like driving and chilling on the lake shore or something more adventurous like hiking or boating, Glacier has so much to offer for couples to do on their vacations.
- Hiking: Explore trails like Hidden Lake Overlook or Avalanche Lake for breathtaking views and photo opportunities.
- Boating: Rent a canoe or kayak on Lake McDonald or Two Medicine Lake for a serene experience. There is also boat tours across the lakes in Glacier National Park, hosted by Glacier Park Boat Company, these are sure to provide a unique experience during your visit!
- Scenic Drives: Take a romantic drive along Going-to-the-Sun Road, stopping for overlooks and picnics. You can even download a complete audio tour (for free) from the NPS website to listen to as you drive along the road the first time, it'll be like having a tour guide right in your vehicle!
- Wildlife Watching: Spot mountain goats, bears, or elk together for a memorable shared experience. My favorite place to see wildlife is at Logan Pass and Many Glacier.
- Stargazing: End your day with stargazing in one of the park’s designated dark-sky areas. If you're lucky and get graced with a clear night and the chance of Northern Lights, I highly recommend finding yourself at Lake Mcdonald after dark to see if you can see the northern lights on the horizon. They often appear as a white glow to the naked eye, but on a strong geomagnetic storm you can see colors to the naked eye.
Hopefully one or more of these activities stands out to you and your partner. I recommend securing any activity reservations early to ensure you get the ideal date/time secured for your trip dates. Enjoy your time in the park!
