Josh and Heidi traveled to Montana from New York on vacation. They love the outdoors and hosting parties. As you know I’m a sucker for dogs, unfortunately, their beautiful dog daughter Consuela was not able to join them on their trip to Montana. Josh contacted me a couple of months before their planned trip to Montana to book a surprise post-engagement session. Little did Heidi know when they planned their trip to Montana that Josh was going to propose!  The day Josh proposed was an especially rainy one, he chose to propose to Heidi at Lake Mcdonald. To make the proposal even more special Josh chose a Montana Sapphire for her engagement ring instead of a diamond. He also had the coordinates of Lake Mcdonald engraved on the inside of the band to commemorate the proposal location.

A couple of days after the proposal I had the opportunity to photograph this sweet couple. They wanted to have their session in West Glacier, so to keep with the theme of Josh’s proposal and we started the session on the shores of Lake Mcdonald. It was a moody cloudy day but we were still able to get some mountain views! We then moved farther into Glacier National Park. Due to heavy rains the weeks before their session, the Middle Fork Flathead River was running high. As a Glacier photographer, doing location research is very important. Conditions in the park and be unpredictable, so finding locations that are not only beautiful but that are versatile is key.

Posing for Couples Photography

Heidi and Josh were a super easy couple to pose. I gave minimal queuing but chose prompts to use with the couple to illustrate their love and laughter. One of the things I pride myself on is continuing to keep learning about photography to keep my skills sharp and give my clients the best experience I possibly can. Posing is one of the skills that I have worked hard on to help my clients feel comfortable and at ease during their sessions. I started learning posing from watching videos on Youtube and looking at posing ideas on Pinterest. I eventually took workshops to help my knowledge of posing for couples and families.
